Multiple organizations have teamed to present a unique conference at Utah State University during the Labor Day weekend. All who are interested in transforming the frantic hustle and bustle of daily living into a sane and soul-restoring human experience are invited to participate, said conference organizer Bonnie Glass-Coffin.

“The workshop, ‘Sacred Space, Urban Grace,’ is an initiation into ritual shamanism with the goals of reconnecting people in urban and campus environments to the living Earth, inspiring compassionate social action and contributing to the health and restoration of our planet,” she said.

Leading participants in the workshop is internationally respected shaman Oscar Miro-Quesada, who brings ancient wisdom traditions from South America to Cache Valley for the weekend workshop Sept.5-7 at the Eccles Conference Center on the USU campus in Logan. A free Saturday event, open to all, will be held at Merlin Olsen Central Park in Logan.

“Participants will explore the fascinating world of shamanism, commune with the sacred dimensions of life and develop skill sets focused on cooperation, compassion and eco-restorative living,” Glass-Coffin said.

People of all ages and background are invited. Discounts are available for youth and students.

Miro-Quesada, the workshop guest presenter, is a healer and shaman who has training in several traditional lineages of Peruvian healing arts. Conference organizer Glass-Coffin has a background in the subject area as well, through her research and fieldwork as a professor in USU’s Department of Sociology, Social Work and Anthropology.

“Oscar Miro-Quesada is a warm, loving human being who deeply cares about people and our planet,” Glass-Coffin said. “He is a master at creating sacred community using the magic of joy, love and compassion. He has dedicated his life to transforming the world through sacred living as he lovingly carries forth a unique vision for pragmatic global spiritual regeneration.”

Conference activities are coordinated through USU’s Conference Services. Cost for the three-day workshop is $199 for adults, $77 for students with ID and free for children ages 8-16. To register, contact USU Conference Services, (435) 797-0423 or 1-800-538-2663. Registration can be completed online (www.chaupinsuyu.org).

The weekend is sponsored by The Heart of the Healer Foundation, in partnership with USU’s Religious Studies Program, the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, the Logan chapter of Bioneers and the Cosmic Nudge.
